NaCl (salt) is available in three main forms; rock salt, sea salt and vacuum salt. Our salts are available in different grain-sizes and are customized for different applications.
Rock salt |

Rock salt is extracted in mines 400-600 m below ground surface. The salt is 250 million years old, formed by salt water that flooded the continent leaving a 2-300 meter thick layer with salt. The rock salt is crushed and transported to the surface to be sorted in different grain sizes. The process is very energy-efficient, which makes rock salt to a good environmental choice. |

Sea salt |

|
Sea salt is obtained by the evaporation of seawater. The water is let into shallow lagoons, called salins, where the water is evaporated. The process is made in several steps until sea salt with 3% humidity is reached. Sea salt can also be "washed" in order to achieve a cleaner grade. Mainly solar energy is used in this process making it also very energy-efficient and therefore a good environmental choice. |

Vacuum salt |

|
Vacuum salt is the most energy demanding salt production. The production starts with water being pumped down to the rock salt layer dissolving the salt to a solution of about 25%. The salt solution is pumped up to the surface and purified by filtration and chemical means. The process is completed when the salt solution is dried in vacuum pans (hence the name vacuum salt). The majority volume of vacuum salt is used for food and water softening where minimal insoluble particulate is of importance. |

Saline
Salt in solution is used in many applications, including in water purification and for de-icing on winter roads.
