England's Highways Agency is upgrading its spreader fleet, starting with the 08/09 winter season. Over the course of 5 years, some 450 salt spreaders will be delivered. This transition means that it will be possible for the bulk of England's winter road maintenance to move away from dry salt spreading. Instead pre-wetted salt can be used, a more economical and environmental method that allows for reductions in the amount of total chlorides used on the roads.
Carillion URS, in the forefront with regard to pre-wetting, has elected to replace portions of their two-year-old saturator fleet with new equipment from Salinity.
Since Schmidt UK will be supplying the spreaders operated out of these depots, the long standing relationship between Salinity UK and Schmidt provides an ideal base for servicing the brine stations making it possible to reduce costs by maintaining both saturators and spreaders at the same time.
"We are very pleased," says Christoffer Rappe, Business Developer at Salinity. "Particularly with the fact that Carillion intend to replace fairly new equipment. This shows that our products offer contractors a great deal of savings. I believe that the decisive factor for Carillion was the opportunity to dramatically cut their costs for salt, along with the documented low maintenance costs of our equipment."
